On 7 June, Tobias Freeman, Senior Legal Officer, attended the European launch of the Global Illicit Trade Environment Index in Brussels. The Index was developed by The Economist’s Intelligence Unit and commissioned by the Transnational Alliance to Combat Illicit Trade (TRACIT).
This launch was hosted by the Permanent Representation of Austria to the European Union, and Ambassador Dr Nikolaus Marschik made opening remarks that reaffirmed the Austrian Government’s commitment to the fight against illicit trade. Dr Walter Gehr, Chief of Cabinet of the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was also in attendance. Mr Stefano Betti (pictured), Deputy Director General of TRACIT and senior advisor to the Siracusa International Institute, presented TRACIT’s policy recommendations that complement and were inspired by the Global Illicit Trade Environment Index.
