Between 5 and 7 June 2023 the Regional Conference on “Strengthening Judicial Cooperation in the MENA region: Integrated Approaches to the Investigation and Prosecution of Money Laundering” took place in Rabat, Morocco. This highly significant conference represents the third event of the activity launched by the EU AML/CFT Global Facility and the Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights, envisaging the organization of a Webinar followed by a number of Regional Conferences that aim
at equipping judges and prosecutors with the specialized knowledge they require to carry out their responsibilities and tasks related to the fight against money laundering and terrorism financing.
The Regional Conference in Rabat was organized in collaboration between the EU AML/CFT Global Facility, the Ministry of Justice of Morocco, The Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights, and the Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF). The Conference focused on the fight against money laundering, in particular on the subject of the recovery of the proceeds of crime and international cooperation in this area.
With participation from over 140 attendees representing 21 MENA countries, alongside representatives from esteemed international organizations such as the United Nations and the International Monetary Fund, the conference aimed to foster the exchange of best practices, coordinate strategies, and strengthen the MENA region’s capacity to combat financial crimes.
