The Siracusa International Institute mourns the passing of Reynald Ottenhof, a member of the Board of Directors since 1976 and Vice Dean until 1996 , but above all, a valued friend from the very beginning. Reynald contributed to all our activities, enriching them with his scientific and human contributions. He was a man of inexhaustible energy and passion for criminal law, constantly seeking new avenues for dialogue and cooperation through the development of international law rules. We all admired the richness of his interventions and the originality of the solutions he developed during multiple meetings held in Siracusa. We still admire the new perspectives on criminal policy emerging from these efforts. He was Professor Emeritus at the University of Nantes, Honorary Vice President of the International Association of Criminal Law – AIDP, Honorary Editor of the International Journal of penal law.
Today, as we bid him farewell, we are deeply grateful for his friendship, his time, his dedication, and his enthusiasm. It was he who, by blowing out the candles on the cake celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Siracusa International Institute, left us with the encouragement to continue toward new goals.
L’Institut international de Syracuse pleure la disparition de Reynald Ottenhof, membre du Conseil d’administration depuis 1976 et Vice Doyen jusqu’à 1996, mais surtout, un ami précieux depuis ses débuts. Reynald a contribué à toutes nos activités, les enrichissant de ses apports scientifiques et humains. Homme d’une énergie inépuisable et d’une passion communicative pour le droit pénal, il recherchait sans cesse de nouvelles voies de dialogue et de coopération à travers le développement des règles de droit international. Nous avons tous admiré la richesse de ses interventions et l’originalité des solutions qu’il a élaboré au cours de multiples réunions organisées à Syracuse. De nouvelles perspectives de politique criminelle émergent de ces travaux.
Il était professeur émérite à l’Université de Nantes, vice-président honoraire de l’Association internationale de droit pénal (AIDP) et rédacteur honoraire de la revue International de droit pénal. Aujourd’hui, alors que nous lui disons adieu, nous lui sommes profondément reconnaissants de son amitié, de son temps, de son dévouement et de son enthousiasme. C’est lui qui, en soufflant les bougies du gâteau célébrant le 50e anniversaire de l’Institut International de Syracuse, nous a encouragés à poursuivre nos efforts vers de nouveaux objectifs.
