The Siracusa International Institute’s 20th Specialization Course in International Criminal Law, on “Human Rights, Criminal Justice and International Law” – which is taking place on the Zoom Platform, opened on Monday July 5th in the presence of 117 participants from 47 countries across the world, including Argentina, Australia, Belgium, China, France, Greece, Italy, India, Kenya, Lebanon, Republic of Korea, Romania, United States, Uganda, Venezuela.
The course is organized in cooperation with the Irish Centre for Human Rights, National University of Ireland (Galway, Ireland), the Middlesex University Department of Law (London, UK), the University of Palermo Department of Law (Italy) and with the support of the International Association of Penal Law (AIDP – France), the College for Criminal Law Science (CCLS), Beijing Normal University (Beijing, China), the Swansea University (Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law), the Canadian Partnership for International Justice (Québec, Canada), the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) and the Manriquez & Benavides Abogados (Chile).
The opening ceremony started on Monday morning with the welcome remarks by Mr. Filippo Musca Director General of the Institute and by Professor William Schabas, Course Director, who made also a general introduction to the course.
Professor Schabas will coordinate the sixteen working sessions of the course together with thirty leading international experts (a list of speakers and bios are available at this link). The course will finish on Friday June 9th and it will also include examinations for selected participants who are interested in receiving the final Diploma of the Siracusa International Institute.
