In 2023, the Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights marked a significant milestone, witnessing a remarkable boost in collaboration with the International Criminal Court (ICC). In this regard, we are delighted to present a compelling video capturing the essence of the International Symposium held in October 2023 in Siracusa, Italy. This symposium, entitled “Strategic Vision for the Next Decade: How to Ensure Consistent and Sustainable Support for the International Criminal Court”, organized by the Siracusa International Institute in collaboration with the Assembly of States Parties and supported by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the U.S. State Department, brought together State Parties, Observer States, Court representatives, as well as representatives of academia and civil society. The event, held as part of the commemoration process for the twenty-fifth anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute of the ICC, culminated in the adoption of the Siracusa Declaration.

2023 stands out as a momentous chapter in the history of the Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights. The strengthened collaboration with the International Criminal Court reached unprecedented levels during the International Symposium in Siracusa. The adoption of the Siracusa Declaration served as a powerful reaffirmation of the shared commitment to bolster the ICC and advance justice and human rights worldwide.

This symbolic achievement in 2023 not only reflects the culmination of a lengthy process to redefine the ICC but also sets the stage for the upcoming decade. The Siracusa International Institute continues to play a pivotal role, perpetuating its historical mission that was instrumental in the establishment of the Court in the nineties. Looking ahead to 2024 and beyond, the Institute remains steadfast in its dedication to advancing the cause of justice and human rights worldwide.
