SIRACUSA: 3RD SESSION OF TRAINING OF TRAINERS PROGRAM ON HUMAN RIGHTS PROTECTION

From December 10th to the 16th, the Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights is organizing the third session of its Training of Trainers Program (ToT) in Siracusa for Egyptian judges, prosecutors and officers of the Technical Office of the Court of Cassation. This session of the training program involves 18 selected participants who will be instructed on how to conduct trainings in Egypt and support the work of the Interministerial Commission on Human Rights.

This activity is part of a three-year Technical Assistance Project in Egypt, which was launched in 2014 with the support of the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA). It is aimed at promoting the rule of law, human rights and the effective functioning of the Egyptian justice sector.

The opening ceremony of the third session of ToT was attended by Ambassador Ulrika Sundberg, the Siracusa International Institute’s Vice-President, Counsellor Ahmed Abu Zayd, Vice President of the Court of Cassation, and Counsellor Cherif Atlam, Chief Justice at the Cairo Court of Appeal and the Siracusa International Institute’s National Project Coordinator.

The training sessions mainly focus on the following topics:

  • Practical and operational aspects related to international criminal and human rights law;

 

  • Training and teaching methodologies;

 

  • Reporting and drafting skills: Reporting to the treaty bodies, reporting to the Universal Periodic Review, Reporting on special procedures.
