On July 24TH 2018, Mr. Filippo Musca, Deputy Director General of The Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights participated in the Study Day on “Challenges and opportunities of population growth and demographic change in Africa” organized by the NATO Strategic Direction South Hub (NSD-S or NATO Southern Hub) in Naples.
Established in September 2017 following the conclusion of NATO’s 2016 Warsaw Summit, the Southern Hub aims to connect allies, partners, subject-matter experts and non-military entities to better understand and overcome strategic and security challenges in NATO’s Southern area (Middle East, North Africa, Sahel, and Sub-Saharan Africa).
The opening remarks of the Study Day were given by Admiral James G. Foggo, Commander of Allied Joint Force Command Naples, followed by the general presentation made by Brigadier General Roberto Agnius, Director of the NATO Southern Hub.
Mr. Musca expressed his satisfaction after the meeting, confirming that the Institute and the Southern Hub will collaborate in the future on different topics, including organised crime, terrorism and related illicit trade challenges for the Mediterranean Region. These areas of cooperation were also discussed two months ago during the Institute’s first visit to the NATO Southern Hub.
