The Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights is pleased to announce the launch of TRUST-AI, a new European initiative aimed at promoting the ethical, responsible, and rights-compliant use of artificial intelligence in criminal justice systems.
As AI tools are increasingly explored within judicial contexts, TRUST-AI seeks to ensure that technological innovation strengthens justice while fully respecting fundamental rights, judicial independence, transparency, and the rule of law.
The project is coordinated by the Siracusa International Institute, in partnership with the T.M.C. Asser Institute(Netherlands) and Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) (Belgium) as main partners. TRUST-AI is further supported by a strong network of associate partners across Europe:
- École Nationale de la Magistrature (France)
- Judicial Training Institute (Belgium)
- National Institute for the Magistracy (Romania)
- Scuola Superiore della Magistratura (Italy)
TRUST-AI aims to equip judges, prosecutors, and court staff with the legal, digital, and ethical skills necessary to understand and responsibly integrate AI tools into their professional activities. By placing trust and fundamental rights at the centre of AI development, TRUST-AI contributes to building more transparent and accountable justice systems across Europe.
