INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON “PEACE, SECURITY AND JUSTICE IN EUROPE AND THE MEDITERRANEAN – HOW CAN EUROPE REINFORCE THE GLOBAL FIGHT AGAINST IMPUNITY?”

03/10/2022

On 17 September 2022, the Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights organised an International Conference on peace, security, and justice in the Mediterranean, titled “Peace, Security and Justice in Europe and the Mediterranean – How can Europe Reinforce the Global Fight against Impunity?” with the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and the Franco-German University (FGU).

Various sessions were held throughout the day, including two high-level panel discussions on international criminal justice, human trafficking, sexual and gender-based violence, as well as other crimes affecting the Mediterranean region and beyond.

Speakers from foreign embassies, international organisations, EU delegations and academia delivered speeches to share their perspective and insight on the state of human rights and international criminal justice in 2022.

They also highlighted the role that the Siracusa Institute – in partnership with relevant authorities at the EU level and across the greater Mediterranean – should play in promoting international cooperation and victim-centered justice for human rights abuses.
