We reaffirm our full support for the International Criminal Court (ICC) and for our Advisory Board member, Judge Rosario Aitala.
Judge Aitala, who played a key role in issuing from The Hague the ICC arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin, has recently been sentenced in absentia by a Moscow court to 15 years in prison.
Alongside Judge Aitala, eight other ICC judges and ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan were similarly sentenced. The charges accuse them of “persecuting innocent persons” and of “attempted violence against individuals enjoying international protection.”
As an institution committed to the promotion of justice and the rule of law, we stand firmly with Judge Rosario Aitala and the other ICC judges. We continue to support their work in upholding international law, protecting victims, and ensuring accountability for crimes that affect communities around the world.
