“Fighting Corruption through Institutional Capacity Strengthening – Improving Security in Egypt and Jordan”

On December 2, 2024, The Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights started the implementation of its “Fighting Corruption through Institutional Capacity Strengthening – Improving Security in Egypt and Jordan” project, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy.

The Project will last for 12 months and achieve the following goals:

1) improve the disclosure of corruption framework through strengthening corruption reporting mechanisms in Egypt and Jordan, particularly, whistle-blower protection;

2) increase awareness among anti-corruption agencies in Egypt and Jordan about the good practices and standards in whistle-blower protection and facilitate incorporating those in the national anti-corruption policies; and

3) facilitate the exchange of experience and lessons learned on strengthening anti-corruption measures within the MENA region.

In the framework of the Project, the Siracusa International Institute will cooperate with local stakeholders to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the obstacles in implementing anti-corruption measures in Egypt and Jordan, based on the outcomes of the assessment co-design and deliver two separate capacity strengthening interventions for anti-corruption agencies from Egypt and Jordan on the good practices and standards for corruption reporting mechanisms, including whistle-blower protection.

Also, the Siracusa International Institute will conduct an online discussion focused on the identified gaps in whistle-blower protection practices in Egypt and Jordan, and support participants in developing policy solutions that would address the current gaps by preparing recommendations on improving the existing policies and increasing the quality of investigations of corruption-related offences.

Implementation of the Project will result in strong regional collaboration on combatting corruption and exchange of good practices that would lead to improving the efficiency of anti-corruption measures, promote sustainable economic development as well as safety and security in the MENA region.
