Tunis: Closing Seminar of the Twinning Project between Tunisia, Spain and Italy

On September 27th, Ms. Stefania Lentinello, Program Officer of The Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights, participated in the closing seminar of the Twinning Project on “Capacity Building Activities in Support of the Ministry of Justice, Human Rights and Transitional Justice” (“The renforcement des capacités du Ministère de la Justice, des Droits de l’Homme et de la Justice transitionnelle -MJDHJT“) in Tunis.

Mr. Nizar Najjar, project leader of the beneficiary country (Tunisia), welcomed participants while opening remarks were given by Mr. Ghazi Jeribi, Tunisian Minister of Justice.

The closing seminar was attended also by Mr. Patrice Bergamini, EU Ambassador to Tunisia, Mr. Jelloul Chelbi, National Program Manager of the PARJ (Programme d’Appui à la Reforme de la Justice), Ms. Ana Gallego, General Director of International Cooperation at the Spanish Ministry of Justice, Mr. Fulvio Baldi, Head of Cabinet of the Italian Ministry of Justice, and Mr. Pedro Flores, Director of the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAP).

The project was conducted by the Spanish Ministry of Justice, represented by the FIIAP as the body responsible for project implementation. The Siracusa International Institute was the ad hoc mandated body of the Italian Ministry of Justice. The overall objective of the project was to contribute to judicial independence and effectiveness in Tunisia, in accordance with European and international standards, in particular by strengthening the institutional capacity, management and organization of the Tunisian Ministry of Justice and courts.
