The Siracusa International Institute expresses its sincerest and deepest condolences for the tragic disappearance of the 157 passengers on board the Ethiopian Airlines plane, which yesterday crashed shortly after takeoff.

The accident has unfortunately cost the lives of – among others- eight Italian citizens, all engaged in important projects of development and international cooperation. In particular, the Institute mourns the loss of Dr. Sebastiano Tusa, Councilor for Cultural Heritage of the Sicilian Region and internationally renowned archaeologist. He was going to Nairobi to personally follow a project on behalf of UNESCO.

A heartfelt thought also goes the volunteers of Africa Tremila, Carlo Spini, Gabriella Vigiani and Matteo Ravasio; the colleagues of the World Food Programme, Pilar Buzzetti and Rosemary Mumbi; the President of the network of NGOs Link 2007, Paolo Dieci, and Virginia Chimenti who was also heading to Kenya for a project of international development and cooperation.
