Rome: The Institute joins the high-level workshop on confronting criminal/terrorist threats.

Between December 9th  and 10th, Mr. Filippo Musca, Acting Director General of the Siracusa International Institute, is attending the High-Level Advanced Research Workshop on “Confronting Criminal/Terrorist Threats, The Reshaping of Non-State Actors” in Rome. The workshop is organised by the NATO Defense College Foundation in cooperation with the NATO Science for Peace and Security Programme, the Policy Center for the New South and the NATO Defense College.

The opening remarks of the workshop were given this morning by Mr. Alessandro Minuto-Rizzo, President of the NATO Defense College Foundation, Mr. Stephen Mariano, Dean of the NATO Defense College and Mr. Giuseppe Morabito, Director of the Training School of the Municipality Rome.

 

The workshop includes three different sessions which focus on:

 

  • Strategies against the new generation terrorism”;

 

  • The virtual dimension of terrorism, trafficking and laundering; and

 

  • Countering threats on the ground”.

 

 

Mr. Musca delivered a presentation in this last session which was attended also by Ms. Rida Lyammouri, Senior Fellow at the Policy Center for the New South (Rabat), Mr. Sakher Dudin, Head of the Public Awareness and Media Committee at the Senate of Jordan and Mr. Richard Hooker, Professor of National Security Strategy at the National War College of Washington. The session was chaired by Ms. Jana Arsovska, Associate Professor of Sociology at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice (New York).
