Geneva: The Institute joins the Dialogue on Illicit Trade and the Sustainable Development Goals

On July 18th, Mr. Filippo Musca, Acting Director General of the Siracusa International Institute, together with Mr. Tobias Freeman, Senior Legal Officer, attended the “Dialogue on Illicit Trade and the Sustainable Development Goals” (SDG) at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. Mr. Musca delivered a presentation on the current projects through which the Siracusa International Institute is fully committed to fight against illicit trade.

The initiative is co-organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and by the Transnational Alliance to Combat Illicit Trade (TRACIT) and it aims to discuss the role of illicit trade in inhibiting positive development outcomes and, in particular, the implications for the achievement of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 agenda of the United Nations.

 

 

The opening remarks of the conference were given by Mr. Jeffrey Hardy, Director General of TRACIT and by Ms. Teresa Moreira, Head of the Division on International Trade and Commodities at UNCTAD. Presentations given by several speakers followed, including H.E. Silvia Elena Alfaro Espinosa, Permanent Representative of Peru to the United Nations Office at Geneva and by H.E. Ambassador Taonga Mushayavanhu, Permanent Representative of Zimbabwe to the United Nations (Vienna).
