On May 21, 2024, Director General Filippo Musca and Senior Legal Officer Ashot Agaian participated in the third Nuremberg Academy Lecture on “Enigmas of the Genocide Convention: 75 years after its adoption, puzzles remain” delivered by Professor William Schabas and organized by the International Nuremberg Principles Academy. The lecture was followed by a meeting between the Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights and International Nuremberg Principles Academy held on May 22, and aimed at identifying potential areas of cooperation. In the course of the fruitful discussion, both institutions presented their planned activities, and concluded that future partnership may be mutually beneficial and would allow to leverage resources and complement each other’s work to create an impact globally. Particularly, both parties agreed to join their efforts in producing research, and expanding geographical coverage for capacity strengthening activities in the areas of International Criminal Law, Artificial Intelligence, Rule of Law and Human Rights, including implementation of the “Regional Atrocity Crimes Training Platform” (REACT) Project. The REACT Project aims to strengthen the capacity for the investigation and prosecution of atrocity crimes at the domestic level by providing comprehensive and sustainable technical assistance to judicial actors committed to fighting impunity. We will keep you updated on the outcomes of the fruitful cooperation between the Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights and International Nuremberg Principles Academy.
