The Siracusa International Institute strongly condemns the attack that took place this morning near the city of Kanyamahoro (Democratic Republic of Congo) and expresses its deep condolences for the killing of the Italian Ambassador Luca Attanasio and the Carabinieri officer Vittorio Iavocacci who was travelling in the same convoy of MONUSCO, the United Nations Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Institute is of the opinion that, if the killings were done knowingly, the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court should open an investigation without delay to bring the perpetrators to the International Criminal Court under the charges of war crimes.
