On May 7th, 2019, Mr. Filippo Musca and Ms. Stefania Lentinello, respectively Acting Director General and Program Officer of the Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights, attended the closing seminar of the Twinning Project “Strengthening Efficiency, Accountability and Transparency of the Judicial and Prosecutorial System in Kosovo” in Pristina, funded by the European Commission.
The opening remarks of the seminar were delivered by the project leader of the beneficiary country, Mr. Lavdim Krasniqi. Several presentations of the project results were then given by the Italian project leader, Mr. Giulio Adilardi, by the Chair of the Kosovo Judicial Council, Mr. Skender Çoçaj and by the Chair of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council, Mr. Bahri Hyseni.
Institutional remarks were also delivered by Mr. Abelard Tahiri, Kosovo Minister of Justice and by the representatives of the partners involved in the project. Among them, Mr. Davide Ermini, Vice President of the Italian High Judicial Council, Mr. Fulvio Baldi, Chief of the Cabinet of the Minister of Justice in Italy and Ms. Nicole Cochet, General Director of Justice Coopération Internationale (JCI).
The overall objective of the twinning project in Kosovo was to contribute to the Rule of Law in the country by strengthening the independence, efficiency, transparency and sustainability of the judiciary and prosecutorial system.
The project was conducted by the Italian High Judicial Council in cooperation with the Italian Ministry of Justice. The French Ministry of Justice, represented by JCI, was junior partner of Italy and the Siracusa International Institute was the ad hoc mandated body of the Italian High Judicial Council, supporting the scientific and logistical management of the project.
Mr Musca expressed his satisfaction for the overall success of the project: “For this important project in Kosovo, stated Mr. Musca, our Institute was able not only to act as focal point for all administrative and logistical aspects, but also to coordinate the implementation of more than 200 missions and 9 study visits and traineeship. Thanks to the fruitful relationships that we established with the Kosovar judicial institutions, we will be able to further cooperate with them in the development of knowledge-building and research activities in the future”.
