Alessia Gualtieri

Alessia Gualtieri joined the Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights in September 2025 as Senior Legal Officer. She is an international lawyer with over 10 years of professional experience in rule of law, counter-terrorism, international criminal justice, and human rights within United Nations, European Union, and international organisations. She holds a Master of Law and an LL.M. in International Crime and Justice from the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI).

Prior to joining the Siracusa International Institute, Alessia worked with the United Nations, the European Union, and international research and policy institutions across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, supporting initiatives related to criminal justice reform, prevention of violent extremism, accountability mechanisms, and human rights-compliant counter-terrorism responses.

Her professional experience includes project implementation, legal and policy analysis, judicial cooperation, and delivery of capacity-building programmes for judicial practitioners, law enforcement officials, and governmental stakeholders across the MENA region, Southeast Asia, and East and West Africa.
