The Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights (formerly known as “International Institute of Higher Studies in Criminal Sciences” – ISISC) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) recognized in 2006 by a Decree Law of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, effectively expanding the Siracusa Institute license to engage in activities in the field of cooperation for development. Moreover, the Institute enjoys special consultative status with the United Nations ECOSOC.
– Consultative status with ECOSOC
The Institute has a special cooperation agreement with the United Nations Office in Vienna (UNOV), and it is one of the eighteen organizations comprising the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme Network. Additionally, over the course of its history, the Institute signed Memorandums of Understanding with several institutions to promote mutual cooperation and joint activities, namely:
