M. Cherif Bassiouni Memoirs

September 10, 2020

This new navigation section is entirely dedicated to the memoirs of Professor M. Cherif Bassiouni (1937-2017), one of the founders of the Siracusa International Institute where he served as President for more than 30 years.

The section includes several documents, speeches, video interviews, and photographs of Professor Bassiouni relating to his life and to his immense work in favour of international criminal justice and human rights.

These important documents represent additional materials that integrate Professor Bassiouni’s posthumous book entitled “A man of many flags: memoirs of a war crimes investigator”, available for purchase at this link.

The documents trace a synthetic cross-section of the main works conducted by Professor Bassiouni in various countries (Afghanistan, Bahrain, Libya, Iraq, etc.) as part of his duties within the United Nations and include materials related to his engagement in favour of the establishment of the International Criminal Court, as well as the adoption of important international conventions, including the United Nations Convention against Torture (UNCAT) in 1984.
