On May 2, 2022, the Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights and the EU AML/CFT Global Facility jointly launched the 2nd Meeting of the High Level Experts Working Group.

The event is part of a series of meetings held under the theme “Legal innovations against money laundering: Assessing the scope and effectiveness of innovative legal approaches to money laundering investigations and asset recovery”.

These meetings are part of a research project whose objective is to review the broadest range of legal innovations employed around the world to solve difficulties related to burden of proof in money laundering and confiscation matters and assess their compatibility with fundamental rights and the common legal and constitutional issues that may be encountered in their application.

The final deliverable will be a publication, which will contain a catalogue of legal options at the disposal of countries that seek to improve their anti-money laundering and confiscation legislation.
