On 18 April, the Siracusa International Institute participated in the 18th Anti-Fraud and Anti-Smuggling Task Force Meeting of the Southeast European Law Enforcement Center (SELEC) in Bucharest, Romania. SELEC supports its member states to enhance coordination in the fight against serious and organised crime in South Eastern Europe. It coordinates regional operations and investigations as well as facilitates the collection, analysis and exchange of information and intelligence.
At the Task Force Meeting, Filippo Musca, Deputy Director General, and Tobias Freeman, Senior Legal Officer, briefed the SELEC Secretariat and member countries on the Siracusa International Institute’s work on illicit trade including its ongoing project Strengthening the Fight Against Illicit Trade in South Eastern Europe. This two-year research and capacity-building project is funded by PMI IMPACT, a global grant initiative of Philip Morris International to support projects dedicated to fighting illicit trade and related crimes.
