On 20-21 November, Mr. Tobias Freeman, Senior Legal Officer of the Siracusa International Institute, participated in the GTDW Anti-Illicit Trade and Brand Protection Summit in Abu Dhabi. This event brings together government policy-makers, law enforcement, global businesses, brand owners, regulators and technology firms.
Keynote Addresses were given by H.E. Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansoori, Minister of Economy of the United Arab Emirates, Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi, Secretary-General of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), among others.
Tomorrow, Mr. Freeman will join a panel discussion on Free Trade Zones, ports and airports. The panel will explore what these trade hubs can do to prevent their exploitation by organised crime, the role that logistics operators and freight forwarders, and how regulatory practices can be developed to combat illicit trade while facilitating legitimate trade.
