Artemis Papavasileiou is a Greek lawyer and criminologist. She holds a Masters in EU Public Law, specialising in International and European Human Rights Law and EU external relations, as well as a Masters in Criminology and Security. Prior to joining the Siracusa Institute as a research fellow, Artemis worked as a Project Assistant at the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces in Switzerland. In that capacity, she was involved in the planning, implementation and steering of a multi-country programme focusing on the topic of police integrity in South Eastern Europe. She has also worked at the legal service of an EU Agency (CEDEFOP) and as a self-employed lawyer in Greece. Over the years, she has been involved in a number of volunteering initiatives which include projects on social inclusion of young inmates, children without parental care and people with disabilities in Greece and Serbia. She is currently engaged as a volunteer legal advisor on asylum law with a Swiss NGO and a research volunteer with Trial International.
