Paris: The Institute joins the OECD Task Force on Illicit Trade

On 15-16 March 2018, the Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights participated in the 6th annual meeting of the Organization for economic co-operation and development‘s (OECD)  Task Force on Countering Illicit Trade. Tobias Freeman, Senior Legal Officer, attended the Task Force meeting at OECD Headquarters in Paris. The Task Force fosters international cooperation and public-private partnerships to combat illicit trade in all sectors.

At the meeting, the Task Force presented its latest reports, “Governance Frameworks to Counter Illicit Trade” and “Trade in Counterfeit Goods and Free Trade Zones: Evidence from Recent Trends”. The Institute commends the OECD on its ongoing contribution and leadership in action against the cross-sectoral challenges presented by illicit trade, including in particular its draft guidance and code of conduct for enhancing transparency in Free Trade Zones. The development and finalisation of these good practices will be driven by member countries in consultation with the private sector. The Institute welcomes these initiatives and looks forward to contributing to the Task Force’s ongoing work.
